Love this 💯, and I completely understand what you’re going through.
Just wanted to share a few thoughts, someone who’s been in a similar place. You don’t have to build a startup or an app to turn something meaningful into a business. Maybe you already know this, but I thought of Reese Witherspoon as an example. She started out as an actor and realized that many hit films come from books. So she asked, Who owns the rights? And how can you tell which books will resonate?
She built a book club, a real community, to get feedback from readers. That gave her insight, influence, and eventually ownership. It worked because she was solving a problem from her own life, and she already had people around her who cared about what she was building.
In your case, I see a similar strength. You’re already creating something real and valuable. And honestly, the instinct to not turn it into an app is probably wise. A lot of people think an app is the next natural step, but it’s actually a tough move. Not because you couldn’t do it, but because the space is crowded. We all already use Slack, WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Substack... People are comfortable there. They already have accounts, habits, and routines built in. Asking them to download something new, learn a new interface, and remember to open it is a lot. And if the app doesn’t solve something very specific that these other platforms can’t, it might not stick. Not because it’s bad, but because people forget.
That said, none of this is black and white. If something new does start forming, if there’s a friction in the current flow that you want to fix, then maybe there is a product idea waiting. And if so, you’ll know. You have good instincts.
I’ve only been in the group a short while, but I’ve followed your work for a long time, and that’s what made me join. There’s a unique energy here, and whatever form it takes, it’s already something special. 🌱
Read this last night and then I could not sleep as your words caused my own meltdown🫠
Luckily tomorrow always comes and I found something else to overthink
